Imura Art Gallery is pleased to present Bountiful Merry-Go-Round,  Chihiro Nagashima’s first solo exhibition in seven years.

Nagashima was born in Shizuoka Prefecture and she has a BFA in oil painting from Kyoto Saga University of Arts. In 2007 she was awarded the grand prize at Tokyo Wonder Wall 2007, and in 2008 she was selected for Wonder Seeds 2008. Her practice encompasses a wide range of areas, including exhibiting her works at art fairs outside of Japan. Drawing inspiration from things that she encounters in everyday life, including movies, music, food, and passages found in books, she paints her motifs in acrylics.

This exhibition will revolve mainly around new works, displaying pieces that allow visitors to gain a sense of how her themes and techniques have evolved through the course of her career. The title, “Bountiful Merry-Go-Round,” arouses fond memories and nostalgic feelings and gives visitors a sense of the visual beauty and emotional depth of the artist’s work. We hope that while enjoying a worldview that melds together the profound thinking brought into her work through her meticulous depictions and the beautiful visuals that arise from this, visitors come to appreciate the importance and significance of even the smallest things. This solo exhibition is an opportunity to enjoy the emotional world contained within Chihiro Nagashima’s work.
